Creative Choices° is committed to delivering the highest quality of useful content and services to aid users in growing their talent or their business.
Editorial values
Creative Choices° has been guided by our users - workshops, surveys, focus groups and, funnily enough, just talking. The people who run Creative Choices° are from the same industries. That’s why we know our users want content that is authoritative, up-to-date, and understandable. It has to be appropriate to their work and sector. They need to rely on it. So this is why everything we do on this journey is grounded in reality.
But our users are part of an industry that is always inspiring, challenging and inviting. We champion an appetite for creative knowledge in all its forms and we can do this in lots of ways. For example, hold provocative online events, showcase challenging work and give users the freedom to explore new ideas.
And finally, our users have told us not to make decisions for them. We let them do their own thing. When they use creative-choices.co.uk users choose the tiles on their home dashboard, as well as the ‘flavour’ of the content they receive—only what they want, what’s relevant. That’s why the user is in control.
Grounded in reality. The freedom to explore. And, ultimately, the user in control. These are our values, and they are underpinned by our editorial behaviours:
Truth and accuracy
We strive to be accurate and truthful in all our content. Our content will be well researched, based on sound data from a number of sources including but not limited to our own. We will always present our content in clear, precise language. We will be honest and open about what we don't know and encourage feedback and debate on all the themes and issues we cover in delivering useful content for our users.
Diversity
We place diversity at the heart of everything we do. We work to be open-minded and reflect all opinions across the Site. In particular, we look to highlight issues within the creative industries and cultural sector such as gender, ethnicity, disability and equality of opportunity, and remain focused on working towards solutions for the various diversity issues affecting our sectors. We strive to ensure a fair balance of opinion, and won’t promote a particular view on controversial matters of public policy or political or industrial controversy.
Editorial independence
Creative Choices° is part of Creative and Cultural Skills (CCS), a campaigning body licensed by (but independent from) government to oversee the strategic development of the workforce in our industries and deliver realistic solutions to skills needs. Our content and our activities are not guided by political or commercial pressures, nor by any personal interests, but by the best interests of the individuals within our sectors and the users of the Site.
Children
We will always seek to safeguard the welfare of children and young people who contribute to and feature in our content including their right to be heard. We also take steps to ensure our content is suitable for children and that our Site is certificated to work with child protection software.
Accessibility
Our aim is to make the Site accessible to all. Good accessibility benefits all users, not just specific groups. To achieve this we have followed accessibility standards and the intelligent application of accepted web standards such as the WAI Guidelines and RNIB Accessibility Guidelines. We will continue to ensure the Site operates in accordance with the Disability Discrimination Act.
Accountability
We are accountable to our users and will deal fairly and openly with them through clear and effective communication.
Views and opinion
We aim to publish the broadest possible spectrum of views that are focused and constructive in leading our creative industries and cultural sector forwards to become the world’s creative hub. Individuals, organisations and users are all invited and encouraged to contribute content to the Site at every opportunity. In particular, users are encouraged to rate and review the content they find on the Site—from courses they have attended, right through to taking part in live debates on the future of skills within our sectors.
Functionality and technology
We have employed relevant technologies to make the Site as interactive and exciting as possible while remaining accessible to the largest majority of users. Wherever possible we have ensured our functionality always has an alternative version for use. E.g. we will provide a non-Java version of core functions for those users without Java-enabled browsers, or those using Screen Readers. We will continue to develop the Site, its widgets and applications, to the highest standards of usability, usefulness and accessibility to be found on the web.
User-generated content
Influence is at the heart of what we do. Underpinning this is the drive to support and share user-generated content. One of the first reasons users come to creative-choices.co.uk is because they want rated information: rated by their peers and experts. Rating is core business to us. We want our users to influence the sector through this Site. It’s the most helpful thing for people. Users can engage with creative-choices.co.uk in adding views for courses, content, mentors, work placements and opportunities—in fact, most of what appears on the Site. The publication, use, moderation and removal of User-Generated Content are addressed in our Terms & Conditions.
Third parties
Creative-choices.co.uk may work with third party suppliers of goods or services where this provision fits with the overall mission of the Site and where Creative Choices believes the good or services will directly benefit the professional development or business growth of the individual. Where these goods or services must be paid for in advance of their use or application, this will be clearly identified as part of any registration or sign-up process.
Advertisers, marketing and sponsorship
Creative-choices.co.uk may work with advertisers, sponsors and agencies wishing to promote their goods and services to the users of the Site. Where this is the case, their advertising or promotional content will be clearly identified as such. Editorial content will never be directly paid for by advertisers, sponsors or agencies.
