Volunteer coordinator

Volunteer coordinators work in the cultural heritage sector and with arts organisations to organise volunteers. Many non-profit organisations rely on volunteers to carry out some or all of their work.

Depending on the organisation, volunteers may carry out a range of activities, including:

  • Fundraising
  • Working on conservation, environmental or community projects, including restoration and archaeological projects
  • Working in a gift shop
  • Caring for animals
  • Showing visitors around historic houses, museums or heritage sites
  • General administrative work.

Volunteer coordinators have to carry out extensive planning for the work of volunteers. They have to ensure volunteers carry out their roles effectively and safely. They must also ensure volunteers work at the correct times. The coordinators are responsible for the work and well-being of the volunteers.
