Exhibition designer

Exhibition designers conceive, plan and create stands for shows and exhibitions. These can range from major public exhibitions like the Ideal Home Show and Chelsea Flower Show, to trade and industry exhibitions. They could also be air shows and other outdoor events, conferences, temporary or mobile displays for museums, galleries and local businesses.

Designers present their ideas in sketches or scale plans to a client. More modern techniques are also used such as computer-generated visuals and models.  Once the specifications are agreed they produce final specifications.
Some exhibition designers work alone, handling all aspects of a project, including:

  • Taking the client's brief
  • Obtaining production estimates
  • Supervising the entire contract
  • Oversee the construction of components. Along with this designers will view their assembly and installation at a venue.

In large companies exhibition designers may have a purely design role. Exhibition designers may handle orders for supplies. They may also liaise with technical specialists such as lighting staff.
