Artistic directors are responsible for the visual aspects of various institutions. These could be galleries, arts centres or a theatre, show, or event. Artistic directors usually have a team around them, including managers and administrators. The type of organisation usually determines both how large the team is and what the specific role of the artistic director is.
The artistic director works with a number of people, including artists, performers and the stage manager / production director. They determine:
- Publicity campaigns for the individual performance or venue
- The visual effects within the gallery, centre or theatre. They ensure that these enhance the performance, exhibition or show
- The production of the finished visual effect. This may involve overseeing designers and illustrators, directing photo shoots and liaising with TV production companies.
