Along with ensuring that an exhibition operates smoothly, exhibition organisers must ensure that the gallery attracts a large audience. The role requires an appreciation of art, combined with well-rounded project management skills.
Art exhibition organisers are often required to:
- Come up with ideas for exhibitions
- Draw up a programme of exhibitions
- Seek funding
- Select work for displays, and arrange to buy or borrow them
- Arrange for the transport, framing and hanging of art
- Work on publicity for the event or exhibition
- Contribute to special events, such as school visits.
