Members of the public will finally get to hear the anticipated A Symphony for Yorkshire when it is broadcast on Sunday (August 1st).

Written and performed for this year's Yorkshire Day, the 15-minute piece will be heard at the same time through BBC Sheffield, York, Leeds and Humberside.

Commissioned by the BBC and composed by Benjamin Till, the piece features more than 200 local musicians and uses a range of different instruments and musical styles.

Mr Till has incorporated sections of the piece for wind bands, Columbian drums and the York Minister carillon player.

Lyrics for a new Yorkshire anthem have also been written by a competition winner, 98-year-old Doreen Brigham.

In addition, a video accompanies the project, which features the musicians performing with backdrops of landmark spots across the county, including a terraced street in Sheffield and York city walls.

Ahead of the performance, Mr Till said: 'It's been an enormous thrill and a great honour to be able to write a piece of music which brings so many Yorkshire-based musicians from so many different musical traditions together.'ADNFCR-1392-ID-800008938-ADNFCR
