The
Creative Units at Aberystwyth University, which offers
visual artists in residence space to create their work alongside businesses, has won another
design award.
It was honoured with a Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) award, just months after winning a Civic Trust Award and was recognised for its high architectural standards, while making a substantial contribution to the local environment.
Ruth Reed, president of RIBA, commented: 'The RIBA Awards always give an opportunity for gem-like small projects and less established practices to shine through and this year is no exception.'
Since the centre was built, it has become a cultural hub for artists and arts businesses to interact together in a creative environment.
Last week the centre published a new report on the first year of the Artists' Residency programme, claiming that it had been an overwhelming success.
According to the report the scheme had a 'rich and beneficial experience' to residents and made a 'positive and dynamic impact' on the life of the Arts Centre.
