Seven visual artists have been shortlisted for the Threadneedle Prize and a separate publicly-judged award.

A panel of judges will decide on the winner of the GBP 25,000 prize for figurative art, but people attending the gallery exhibition of their work will have the chance to vote for their favourite in the Visitors Choice award, with the most popular artist winning GBP 10,000.

According to Lewis McNaught, director of the Mall Galleries where the works will be on show, this is the largest prize awarded by the public in the UK.

Mr McNaught told the Telegraph: 'People come to art very engaged, they have opinions and they have the right to express those opinions.

'What's interesting is to see if their choice matches the choice of the judges or if it's different.'

If the two panels were to agree, this would see the artist winning GBP 35,000.

A further 39 works by other artists will be on show at the gallery, which will run in London from September 2nd until 18th.

The winner will be announced on September 15th.ADNFCR-1392-ID-800005317-ADNFCR
