Man Booker longlist announced
The longlist for the Man Booker Prize has been announced.

Thirteen novels have made the list, which will be shortlisted on September 7th before the winner is announced on October 12th.

Included in the list is Peter Carey for his novel Parrot and Olivier in America. Carey is one of only two authors who have won the prize twice.

Three other authors have been shortlisted before. They are David Mitchell, listed this year for The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet, Damon Galgut and Rose Tremain, who was nominated for Restoration in 1989 and this year for her novel Trespass.

Chair of the judges Sir Andrew Motion, commented: 'Here are 13 exceptional novels - books we have chosen for their intrinsic quality, without reference to the past work of their authors.

'Wide-ranging in their geography and their concern, they tell powerful stories which make the familiar strange and cover an enormous range of history and feeling. We feel confident that they will provoke and entertain.'

The winner will receive GBP 50,000 and the six shortlisted authors will receive GBP 2,500.ADNFCR-1392-ID-800007552-ADNFCR
