The Groucho Club, Soho's exclusive private members' club, has launched its first award recognising the arts world.

Frequently populated by the creative scene, the Maverick Award will seek out someone in the arts field who has stood out and 'broken the mould' in the past 12 months, 'whether as a designer, a writer, a film-maker, or an artist; someone who has both challenged and made a major contribution to the arts', the award organisers said.

Now accepting applications, the competition is open to artists from all over the world who embrace the visual arts, multimedia, performing arts and publishing.

Votes will be cast by members of the club throughout July and a panel will create a shortlist by September.

On October 24th the crowning winner will be announced, who will be awarded a prize of £10,000, a lifetime membership of the Groucho Club and a limited edition sculpture.

The award marks the 25th anniversary since the opening of the nightspot.ADNFCR-1392-ID-800000500-ADNFCR
