Designers celebrated at D&AD Awards
Designers from all over the world were recognised last week at the D&AD Awards.

Held on June 3rd at London's Round House, the ceremony saw five Black Pencils and 42 Yellow Pencils handed out, recognising outstanding design over the past year.

Black Pencils are awarded to agencies that produce groundbreaking work that redefines a medium and US technology brand Apple won its record seventh pencil since 1999.

It is the most successful brand in the award's 48-year history.

Other recipients included Tourism Queensland's 'Best job in the world' campaign, which advertised a caretaker job for Hamilton Island and a South African campaign to boost sales of the Zimbabwean, which attacked Robert Mugabe's regime.

In the UK, Elle UK magazine won a Yellow Pencil for its Lily Allen special issue and Innocent smoothies won for its packaging redesign.

D&AD president Paul Brazier commented: 'And there we have it. Proof, if it were needed, that creativity shines in the face of global recession, and even political oppression.'

The Student Awards will be held on June 29th.
