The
Design Council is to be reviewed, the minister of state for universities and science David Willetts (pictured) has announced.
It will be lead by Martin Temple, chairman of the 600 group, the UK's largest machine tool company, and will look to consider the role and status of the Design Council in the future.
Mr Willetts stated that the council has 'played an important role in promoting the value of design to the economy', but with the Spending Review due to be revealed later this year, options for the future must be considered.
This could lead to possible cuts to the body or other changes.
Chairman of the council Lord Bichard commented: 'I believe design will play a key role in driving renewal of economic growth and efficient, customer focussed public services.
'The economic importance of design in the UK is not in question, nor is there doubt about the existence of market failures and the need for support; it is a question of how this support is best delivered.'
