Best Scottish theatre shortlisted
Some of the best performing arts shows in Scotland have been recognised in this year's Critics' Awards for Theatre in Scotland (CATS) shortlist.

Edinburgh's Traverse Theatre took the most nominations, totalling ten across six categories, but the Tron Theatre in Glasgow also appears in four categories.

Dundee Repertory Theatre took six nominations for its productions of A Christmas Carol and The Elephant Man.

Pitlochry Festival Theatre, Perth Theatre and Fife Arts Trust also picked up nominations.

For the first time in the awards' eight-year history, a visual arts project was shortlisted.

The Darktown Cakewalk from the Glasgow International Festival of Visual Art has been nominated for Best Ensemble and Best Use of Music and Sound.

Mark Fisher, co-convenor of CATS, said: 'It has been a bumper year for great theatre in Scotland and we were spoilt for choice when it came to making our selections.'

CATS also awards the best new plays written by some of Scotland's existing and emerging talent in theatre.
