BBC 6 Music saved
BBC 6 Music, the digital radio station that celebrates up and coming musicians, has been saved.

It was announced today (July 5th) that the BBC Trust has rejected plans to close the station after months of campaigning and support from listeners and high profile celebrities who had run Facebook pages and written to the trust in a bid to save the station.

6 Music had been seen as a valuable platform for people starting their careers in the music industry to be heard and discover their fan base.

But in a statement the trust, which is chaired by Sir Michael Lyons, said: "As things stand, the case has not been made for the closure of 6 Music.

"The executive should draw up an overarching strategy for digital radio. If the director general wanted to propose a different shape for the BBC's music radio stations as part of a new strategy, the trust would consider it."

Some cuts have been made, however, including the end to the Asian Network digital radio station and teen service Blast! and a cut of 25 per cent from the BBC's online budget.ADNFCR-1392-ID-800000016-ADNFCR
