Arts equality takes step forward
Equality in the creative industries has taken a step forward with the creation of a new handbook which outlines measures for promoting good practice in the performing arts.

Written by the International Federation of Actors (FIA), which represents performers' trade unions and associations around the world, the handbook lists the measures that are already being taken throughout Europe in achieving gender equality in the industry, both front and backstage, the Stage reported.

Jean Rogers, vice president of Equity, who represented the UK at the FIA's seminars on the handbook project, told the newspaper: 'The FIA handbook is one of the key outcomes of the European project as a whole and is intended to empower and support performers' unions to undertake certain action on the issue of how real work opportunities for men and women can be ensured, allowing women to enjoy a long and full working life as performers.'

Once completed, it will be delivered to all of the FIA's associated unions.ADNFCR-1392-ID-800000476-ADNFCR
